histórias de filmes: CHELSEA HOTEL, NYC

O Chelsea Hotel, trazido de volta à conversa pelo documentário de Abel Ferrara, albergou, já se sabe, muito artista. Do cinema, tiveram lá quarto Stanley Kubrick, Milos Forman, Dennis Hopper, Vincent Gallo, Julian Schnabel, Jane Fonda ou Ethan Hawke, e o melhor é não falar de quem só lá foi a uma festa ou dormir umas horas ou já não saímos daqui. No entanto, e misteriosamente, o hotel pouco apareceu em filmes. A narrativa visual mais relevante sobre o Chelsea continua a ser “Chelsea Hotel #2”, de Leonard Cohen. A canção é sobre Janis Joplin, ainda que mais tarde, Cohen se tenha arrependido da inconfidência, e reza assim: “I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel, / you were talking so brave and so sweet, / giving me head on the unmade bed, / while the limousines wait in the street.”
