Relembrar George Stevens
"The two (Stevens) pictures that have meant the most to me over the years are Giant and Shane. I marvel at these
movies, at their mastery of pace and—most of all—scale and their link to
emotion. The most famous instance of this mastery in Giant is the long shot of the
mansion on the prairie, but the scene of Mercedes McCambridge's accident on
horseback, where the images alternate dramatically between vast distances and
inserts in tight close–up, never fails to excite me. His sense of scale
influenced an entire generation. Stevens was a giant, a pioneer, and he's one
of the people who laid the groundwork for us all."
